• Uses: This combination is primarily used for the prevention of cardiovascular events (heart attack and stroke) and the treatment of hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol). It is often prescribed to patients with a history of heart disease, stroke, or after the placement of a stent.
• Mechanism of Action:
  • Atorvastatin (a statin) lowers “bad” cholesterol (LDL) and triglycerides by blocking the enzyme responsible for cholesterol production in the liver.
  • Clopidogrel (an antiplatelet or blood thinner) prevents platelets from sticking together and forming harmful blood clots in the arteries.
• Administration: The capsule should be swallowed whole with a glass of water, with or without food, as advised by your doctor. It is important not to chew, crush, or break the capsule and to take it regularly at the same time each day.
• Important Warnings:
  • This medicine increases the risk of bleeding, so caution is needed during activities like shaving or using sharp objects. Inform your doctor before any surgery or dental procedure.
  • It should not be used during pregnancy or by individuals with active liver disease or active bleeding issues.
  • Alcohol consumption is unsafe as it may worsen liver conditions.
  • Do not stop taking the medication without consulting a doctor, even if you feel well, as this can increase the risk of cardiovascular events.
