BUDECORT 0.5MG RESPULES (each containing 0.5 mg of Budesonide) are an anti-inflammatory steroid medication used for the long-term management and prevention of asthma and COPD symptoms. They are administered via a nebulizer and do not provide immediate relief for an acute asthma attack.
Key Details
  • Active Ingredient: Each 2 ml respule contains 0.5 mg of Budesonide, which is an inhaled corticosteroid.
  • Mechanism of Action: Budesonide works by reducing inflammation and swelling in the airways, making breathing easier and helping to prevent asthma attacks.
  • Administration: The contents of the respule are squeezed into a nebulizer to create a fine mist for inhalation through a face mask or mouthpiece.
  • Manufacturer: Cipla Ltd..
  • Prescription: This is a prescription drug and should be used under medical supervision.
Uses
  • Management of Asthma: Used as maintenance therapy to control daily symptoms like wheezing, shortness of breath, and chest tightness.
  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD): Helps manage symptoms such as breathlessness and chronic cough by reducing airway inflammation.
  • Croup: Can be used to treat croup (an upper airway infection causing breathing difficulty) in infants and children aged 12 months to 8 years, typically in a hospital setting.
Common Side Effects
Rinsing your mouth with water or brushing your teeth after each use can help prevent some local side effects like oral thrush.
  • Throat irritation and sore throat
  • Coughing or hoarse voice
  • Headache
  • Increased risk of infection, such as oral thrush (a fungal infection in the mouth)
  • Nausea and abdominal pain
Important Warnings and Precautions
  • Acute Attacks: This medicine is a “preventer” and will not stop an asthma attack that has already started. A fast-acting “reliever” inhaler should be used for sudden breathing difficulties.
  • Medical Conditions: Inform your doctor if you have tuberculosis, any active infections in your mouth or lungs, liver disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, or osteoporosis.
  • Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Consult your doctor before use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as the potential benefits and risks must be weighed.
  • Long-term Use: Long-term, high-dose use may cause serious side effects like weak bones (osteoporosis) or damage to the eyes (glaucoma or cataracts), requiring regular monitoring by a doctor.
  • Do Not Stop Abruptly: Do not stop using Budecort 0.5mg Respules without consulting your doctor, as symptoms may return or worsen.
