Sodium Hyaluronate 0.1% w/v Eye Drops

are a lubricating ophthalmic solution primarily used to treat dry eye syndrome and ocular surface irritation.

Product Description
Sodium hyaluronate is the sodium salt of hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally present in the human eye. These eye drops act as “artificial tears,” providing hydration by mimicking the eye’s natural lubrication system.
  • Mechanism: It has a high water-binding capacity, allowing it to form a stable, long-lasting protective film over the cornea that remains intact even during blinking.
  • Common Brands (India):
Healtears 0.1% Soha 0.1%  and Flogel.

Key Benefits
  • Dry Eye Relief: Provides immediate and long-lasting relief from burning, itching, and foreign body sensations caused by inadequate tear production.
  • Environmental Protection: Soothes irritation from wind, sun, heating, air conditioning, and smoke.
  • Post-Surgical Recovery: Aids in the healing of the corneal epithelium following surgeries like cataract removal or LASIK.
  • Reduced Friction: Lubricates the eye surface to reduce friction during blinking, which is beneficial for contact lens wearers and those with corneal abrasions.
Directions for Use
  1. Preparation: Wash your hands thoroughly before use.
  2. Application: Tilt your head back, pull down the lower eyelid to create a small pocket, and instill 1–2 drops into the eye.
  3. Distribution: Close your eye and blink several times to spread the solution evenly across the surface.
  4. Frequency: Typically used 4 times a day, though it can be applied more frequently if advised by a doctor.
  5. Multi-Drug Use: If using other eye medications, wait at least 5–15 minutes between applications to prevent dilution.
Precautions
  • Contamination: Do not touch the dropper tip to any surface, including your eye or eyelashes, to avoid infection.
  • Vision Blurring: Temporary blurred vision is common immediately after application; avoid driving or operating machinery until your vision clears.
  • Contact Lenses: Many formulations are safe for use with contact lenses, but it is often recommended to remove lenses before application and wait 15 minutes before reinserting them unless otherwise directed.
  • Expiry: Discard the bottle within 4 weeks (28–30 days) after opening to prevent microbial growth, unless it is a preservative-free single-dose unit.
  • Pregnancy & Breastfeeding: Consult a healthcare professional before use, as safety data for these groups is limited.
