Fusidic Acid 0.2% W/W Cream is an antibiotic used for treating bacterial skin infections like impetigo, infected cuts, and dermatitis. It works by stopping bacteria from producing essential proteins needed for their growth and survival.
Uses and Benefits
Fusidic acid cream is specifically formulated to combat bacterial infections and provides relief from associated symptoms such as swelling, redness, and pain.
  • Impetigo: Treats this contagious skin infection characterized by weeping, crusty, and swollen patches.
  • Infected Eczema/Dermatitis: Helps clear up skin inflammation and irritation caused by bacterial infection.
  • Wounds and Abrasions: Can be used to prevent or treat infection in minor cuts, grazes, burns, and wounds.
  • Folliculitis/Boils: Effective against infections around hair follicles, boils (pus-filled bumps), and carbuncles.
How to Use
This medication is for external use only and typically requires a doctor’s prescription.
  1. Clean the Area: Wash and dry the affected area of the skin thoroughly before application.
  2. Apply Thin Layer: Put a thin layer of cream onto the infected area and gently rub it in.
  3. Frequency: It is usually applied three to four times a day, or as directed by your doctor.
  4. Wash Hands: Always wash your hands before and after applying the cream, unless the treatment is for your hands.
  5. Duration: Use it for the full duration prescribed by your doctor, which is typically 1-2 weeks, even if symptoms improve earlier, to ensure all bacteria are eradicated.
Important Precautions:
  • Avoid contact with eyes, nose, and mouth. Rinse immediately with water if accidental contact occurs.
  • Do not cover the treated area with airtight dressings (e.g., bandages) unless a doctor specifically instructs you to, as this may increase side effects.
  • Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or breastfeeding.
