Potential Side Effects and Precautions
- Common Side Effects: Nausea, vomiting, stomach pain/cramps, headache, dizziness, itching, and heartburn.
- Serious Side Effects: Can cause hemolytic anemia (destruction of red blood cells) in individuals with a specific genetic condition called glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency. A blood test for G6PD deficiency is highly recommended before starting treatment. It may also cause heart rhythm problems or a decrease in white blood cell count.

- Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Primaquine is generally contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding, as it can harm the baby.
- Medical Conditions: Inform your doctor if you have blood disorders, heart problems, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, or kidney/liver issues.
