MONOCEF-O Drops is a prescription antibiotic medication that contains cef podoxime proxetil (25 mg/ml), used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections in children. It is an oral suspension that is reconstituted with water.
Uses and Benefits
Monocef-O Drops is commonly prescribed for bacterial infections in children, including respiratory tract infections (like pneumonia, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, and sinusitis), ear infections (otitis media), uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTIs), skin infections (such as impetigo and cellulitis), and gastrointestinal infections (like bacterial diarrhea and typhoid fever).
How to Use and Precautions
The medication comes as a dry powder that needs to be reconstituted with sterile water provided in the package. Shake the bottle, add water to the marked line, and shake vigorously. Use a dropper or measuring cup for accurate dosing. It can be taken with or without food, though taking it with food may help prevent stomach upset. It is important to complete the full course of treatment even if symptoms improve. This antibiotic is not effective against viral infections. If a dose is missed, administer it as soon as remembered, unless it’s almost time for the next dose, in which case the missed dose should be skipped. Do not double the dose.
Common Side Effects
Most side effects are usually mild and temporary. These can include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, headache, and skin rash.
